Sustainability: Sharing Responsibility
Sustainability and active environmental protection are among the core business principles of our medium-sized company. To this end, we utilize state-of-the-art technologies and systems. We develop intelligent solutions and products designed for long service life in continuous operation, thanks to their robust materials and high-quality craftsmanship. Because together, we share responsibility for our future.
Environment
We are committed to fulfilling our economic, ecological, and social responsibilities – going beyond the interests of our customers and the requirements of the law.
Society
Because we are part of our society, we bear a social responsibility. We help shape the environment around our locations to make it attractive – culturally, socially, and economically. We are committed to supporting social and educational institutions to enhance the future viability of the regions.
Regulations
1. Identification of Risks
To identify risks, SIEBFABRIK uses a specific sustainability risk filter. This filter takes into account geographical, political, and product-specific risks. We obtain key insights through ongoing media monitoring of our suppliers.
2. Supplier screening
We obtain the necessary self-declarations and certificates from our suppliers.
3. Audit
Our goal is to identify risks in the supply chain at an early stage and to minimize or eliminate them through defined measures. If our risk analyses reveal violations of our sustainability requirements, we reserve the right to conduct audits of our suppliers with regard to environmental, economic, and social sustainability criteria.
4. Compliance
Mutual trust and openness are the cornerstones of our business relationships. That is why we place great value on relevant information or feedback from business partners, customers, or those directly affected. To identify adverse effects in a timely manner, we have established a complaint mechanism. Our Compliance Management team is the direct point of contact.
5. Handling Conflict-Sensitive Materials
So-called “conflict minerals” are tin, tungsten, tantalum, and gold. Since 2010, the U.S. has implemented legal regulations through the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act). Regulations have also been established in the EU, culminating in the EU “Regulation on Minerals from Conflict-Affected Areas,” which entered into force on January 1, 2021. SIEBFABRIK does not import raw materials and therefore focuses its activities on direct suppliers. Using a standardized questionnaire, we monitor transparency in the supply chain regarding conflict minerals. If raw materials and their sources in the supply chain are identified as not “conflict-free,” we immediately require a switch to audited sources.
6. Sustainability-Check
Before the SIEBFABRIK issues new contracts on the market, it conducts a review of vendors and suppliers, known as a sustainability check. Suppliers are evaluated based on their performance regarding sustainability requirements in accordance with applicable ESG standards, in order to meet legal requirements and reduce risks in the supply chain. Suppliers who do not meet the necessary minimum requirements are not considered further in the contracting process. The review of sustainability standards consists of two components:
6.1. Endorsement of SIEBFABRIK’s Business Partner Sustainability Code
A commitment to comply with SIEBFABRIK’s Business Partner Sustainability Code forms the foundation of our partnership.
6.2. Supplier assessment regarding sustainability performance
We evaluate our suppliers on issues such as environmental protection, human rights, workplace safety, and supply chain responsibility. The results of these assessments are critical to our evaluation and, consequently, to any future collaboration.
